Saturday May 27th 2023 1:00PM - 4:00PM

Description

This class is for members who are brand new to windsurfing or do NOT yet have a Novice Windsurfing Rating. If you already have a Novice rating, please do not register for this class. Instead, take the Novice Refresher class if you would like to review this material.

You must register for this class. From the calendar view, click here to register (you must be logged in). You won't be able to register until you have passed the Written Novice Test.

Please note: This lesson takes place in the afternoon due to low tides and may have higher winds. If winds are too high for beginners, this lesson will be land-only.

After taking this class, you will be able to safely manage windsurfing gear and have a basic understanding of sail steering.

The lesson will be taught by CSC volunteers and will include both on-land instruction and on-the-water practice. If you own a wetsuit you are encouraged to bring it, but a selection of wetsuits are available to borrow. Wetsuits are required for both safety and comfort. This is a water sport, be prepared to get wet!

Topics covered:

  • Orientation to club

  • Safety & Self Rescue

  • Carrying equipment

  • Basic sail steering

  • Turning around/tacking

Once you have completed the written test and this lesson, demonstrating that you can safely handle equipment and can self-rescue on the water, you will receive your Novice rating and will be able to check out Novice equipment any time the club is open and appropriate gear is available.

Before you can register for this class you must Read and TAKE the Novice written test. (20 mins)

Recommended BEFORE you show up for your lesson:

  1. Watch and learn: Check out our CSC-specific videos on checking out equipment, carrying gear, and first-time windsurfing skills. (15 mins.)

  2. Read about it: Browse the 10-Step Guide to Windsurfing and for even more detail, the CSC Handbook for Windsurfing. (0-30 mins. These are great resources to search if you're having trouble with the written test.)

If you have any questions, please contact Co-Rear Commodore, Randi S. (csc.randi@gmail.com).
